Catelligence is listing shelters where we are confident that the shelters are using their funds and resources in line with what they are generally claiming for animal welfare and not for large profits.    Catelligence has come across a lots of very concerning information with larger mainstream shelters throughout bigger towns of TN that often act as the county pounds The welfare of animals tend to be secondary to profits in these organizations.  In many circumstances, board members of some of these shelters are taking home six figure salaries.   Some shelters are even selling off animals to animal research facilities where horrific experiments are done on cats and still calling themselves no kill because the animals leave "alive".   Often animals are picked up in the middle of the night where almost none of their volunteers have an idea of what is going on. 

If you have concern that your local major shelter is engaged in what we can only call as financial fraud and unethical behavior, we encourage a thorough investigation of their financials knowing that much of their labor expenses are covered by volunteers.   Being that many of these shelters operate as a public entity(city pounds) makes them open to public record requests.  It it up to you to ask these hard questions with any shelter you choose to support if you are donating resources to them.  Naturally you want your donated resources to go towards animal welfare.
